Federal agents arrested Thomas Markle, 82, on Friday morning at a care facility in Florida. The arrest marks the first formal action in a multi-country investigation into alleged child sexual abuse material.
The probe centers on digital devices and physical media located in two foreign jurisdictions. In Cebu City, Philippines, police obtained a warrant to inspect mobile phones, SD cards, hard drives, and a camera. Those items had been surrendered by Markle's son, Thomas Markle Jr. Cebu police reported finding videos involving minors and other explicit files. Those digital assets are currently undergoing further analysis.
In Mexico, officials searched a storage unit rented by Markle following an anonymous tip. The unit contained computer equipment and Asian magazines dating back 20 years. Investigators are examining these items for connections to the case.
Markle lived in Cebu City from January 2025 until May 2026. He returned to the United States in May for medical treatment. He was residing in a Florida care facility when federal agents took him into custody on November 6.
The case involves coordination between U.S. and international authorities. The investigation is ongoing. Additional analysis of the recovered materials is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
