Jeffery Simmons will play for the Chicago Bears this season after a trade with the Tennessee Titans was finalized on Thursday. The move swaps the four-time Pro Bowler for two first-round selections in 2027 and 2028, along with a 2027 fourth-round pick. Tennessee also receives a 2028 fifth-round selection as part of the agreement.
Simmons, 29, was named to the First Team All-Pro unit last season while with Tennessee. He signed a three-year contract extension in July valued at a reported $105.8 million, which keeps him under contract through 2030. In seven games this year, he has recorded four sacks for a team that is 1-6.
General manager Mike Borgonzi decided to trade the 2019 first-round pick to accumulate future draft capital. For Chicago, general manager Ryan Poles described the acquisition as a signal that the team is ready to compete for a Super Bowl. The Bears are 5-2 in their second season under head coach Ben Johnson, and quarterback Caleb Williams continues to develop in his third year.
The Bears' defense has improved since allowing 37 points in the season opener. Head coach Dennis Allen's unit currently ranks eighth in total yards allowed and third against the run. Simmons posted career highs in 2025 with 11 sacks and three forced fumbles in 15 games.
If Simmons clears the physical process in time, he could debut in Week 8. The Bears travel to Seattle on Monday night to face the Seahawks, who added guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.
