Pfizer has announced a $650 million capital investment to build a manufacturing technology center in Groton, Connecticut. The project will create a new facility dedicated to producing ingredients and drug products that support the company's clinical trials.
The new campus addition is part of a five-year development plan. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with the 220,000-square-foot facility expected to become operational in 2031. AdvanceCT is managing the project execution.
Pfizer opened its medical research laboratory operations in Groton in 1959. The current campus spans more than 175 acres and contains over 2 million square feet of office and lab space. The new center will consolidate employees currently working across various facilities on the site into a single, purpose-built location.
Raja Mangipudy, the Groton Site Head, stated that the center will advance the company's ability to support clinical research and the development of new medicines for patients around the world. He noted that many discoveries advancing the pipeline begin at the Groton site.
The City of Groton confirmed it will continue supporting the company through planning, construction, and operational startup. The investment builds on Pfizer’s longstanding presence in the community and strengthens Groton’s role as a hub for pharmaceutical research and development.
The facility will support scientific discovery, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical development, and the global supply of materials used in clinical research.
