NATO representatives will convene in Brussels later this week alongside officials from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The meeting is scheduled to address security guarantees for Ukraine and the next steps toward ending the war.
Alliance spokesperson Allison Hart confirmed the participation of the four nations. She stated that the gathering would follow prior discussions held in Miami and Oslo. Hart described the purpose of the Brussels talks as a means to move toward a just and lasting end to the conflict.
The confirmation aligns with an announcement made by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Witkoff indicated that an American team would travel to Belgium for the session. He listed representatives from the European Union, NATO, and the three European nations as attendees.
Witkoff outlined a specific agenda for the Brussels meeting. The topics include security guarantees for Ukraine, the structure of European security arrangements after the war, and economic opportunities to support reconstruction. Hart focused her description on the diplomatic progress toward a lasting peace.
Witkoff also announced that trilateral talks aimed at ending the war would occur in Abu Dhabi next week. He stated that these discussions would focus on additional steps toward peace, following the Brussels meeting.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the prospect of the Abu Dhabi meeting. He said a recent telephone conversation between European leaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested Russia was serious about holding the negotiating session.
That call took place on October 27. Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre initiated the contact with the Kremlin. Zelenskyy said the two leaders pressed Putin for genuine measures to reduce escalation involving Ukraine's energy sector and infrastructure, telling him clearly that such steps were needed.
