Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi is processing a heavy volume of customers as shoppers search for last-minute Halloween gear. The organization reported that hundreds of people entered its stores this week to buy costumes and decorations. Many buyers aim to find affordable alternatives to new retail options before the holiday arrives on Saturday.
Katie Myers, the Goodwill marketing manager, noted that the entire week has been busy due to the specific timing of the holiday. She explained that the revenue directly supports local workforce development programs and benefits the Mississippi Gulf Coast community.
The National Retail Federation projects that national Halloween spending will reach a record $13.5 billion this year. Costumes represent a large portion of that total as consumers balance their household budgets with holiday traditions. This financial pressure drives many families toward second-hand markets.
Customer Christian Stelly arrived at the store as soon as it opened to secure a costume for his daughter. He stated that his family has limited funds for the season, making Goodwill a reliable option for finding inexpensive items.
Store inventory currently includes racks of second-hand costumes and seasonal decorations. The selection serves shoppers looking to avoid high price tags while preparing for the October 31 celebration.
