Security researcher Benn Jordan has identified dozens of Flock Safety cameras broadcasting live video on the public internet. Jordan, who specializes in surveillance technology, discovered the open streams while analyzing the company's infrastructure. He noted that the feeds are accessible without a password or login.

Flock Safety markets its products to law enforcement agencies as tools for identifying stolen vehicles and tracking suspects. The company maintains that its primary function is to monitor vehicle license plates rather than pedestrians. However, internal training materials and product demonstrations present a different operational picture for police departments using the equipment.

According to training videos shared by the company, officers utilize the system to track suspects across multiple locations. The software allows users to link plate data from different cameras to build a movement timeline. Jordan pointed out that some camera models are specifically engineered to physically pan and tilt to follow a target.

"And they quite literally use AI to zoom in and follow you around whether you're a person of interest or not," Jordan said. He described the artificial intelligence features as automatically adjusting the lens to keep a subject in frame. This capability extends the surveillance function beyond simple vehicle logging to active pedestrian tracking.

The findings raise questions about data privacy for residents in areas where Flock cameras are installed. The open streams suggest that the default configuration for some units may leave live feeds exposed to anyone with the correct URL. Jordan has not released a full list of the specific camera locations, but he confirmed the streams are currently active.

Flock Safety has not responded to requests for comment regarding the specific open feeds Jordan identified. The company continues to sell its hardware to municipalities across the United States. The issue adds to a growing debate over how much visual data private companies collect on behalf of government agencies.

The discovery comes as Flock Safety expands its network. The company's cameras are designed to capture high-resolution images of vehicles and nearby pedestrians. For now, the open streams remain a technical vulnerability that exposes the real-time capabilities of the tracking system to the public.
