Seven members of the Fatemiyoun militia and one gunman were killed in a coordinated attack on a school in eastern Iran on Monday, local human rights monitors reported. The incident occurred in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, where the facility served as a base for the Shi'ite militia, which is funded and trained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Haalvsh human rights monitor tracked the event, noting that the Fatemiyoun ranks are composed primarily of Afghans. According to the monitor, unknown assailants targeted the fighters at the Bir-e Sofla School, located in the village of Bir within the Kahiri district of Konarak County. Witnesses described the sequence of events as beginning at 4 p.m., when two armed individuals arrived on motorcycles and immediately opened fire on the stationed forces.

While seven fighters were confirmed dead, several others sustained critical injuries and were transported to medical facilities by ambulance. State media provided a likely attribution for the attack, with the Tasnim News Agency reporting that the gunmen were affiliated with Jaish al-Adl. This Baloch nationalist militant organization operates across the border between Iran and Pakistan. The agency did not report on other casualties aside from one gunman who attempted an attack on army personnel.

A separate incident occurred in the same province on Tuesday, when a security officer was killed by an unidentified gunman at approximately 7:45 a.m. in Saravan County. The shooting took place near the Islamic Azad University and the governor's office building in the city center. The slain officer was identified as Third Lieutenant Hojjat Vafakarde, who served in the police intelligence unit of Saravan County.

Tasnim News Agency offered a different narrative regarding the Saravan attack, stating that the killing was carried out by members of a terrorist group affiliated with the United States and the Israeli regime. This characterization is common among Iranian state outlets when discussing opposition forces. Both incidents occurred within a 24-hour period, marking a distinct increase in violence in the region.

The Sistan and Baluchestan province has long been a focal point for Baloch nationalist movements and other militant activities. The use of schools as bases and the targeting of security officials reflect the complex nature of the conflict in the area. As investigations continue, the exact motives and affiliations of the gunmen remain a subject of interest for local and international observers.
