Jalen Duren will sit out at least two weeks due to a right hamstring strain.
The Detroit Pistons announced the injury on Sunday. The 22-year-old center is scheduled for reevaluation after that period. This absence occurs early in the 2026-27 NBA season as the team adjusts its lineup.
Duren suffered the strain during Friday's game against the Miami Heat. Detroit won that matchup 128-111. He exited in the second quarter after feeling pain in his right leg. The injury occurred while he attempted a move against Miami forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Duren played 10 minutes before leaving. He finished with four points, six rebounds, and three assists.
The injury follows a strong 2025-26 campaign for Duren. He averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season. Those numbers earned him his first NBA All-Star selection and a spot on the All-NBA Third Team. In the Pistons' first two games this season, he has averaged 13 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Detroit will rely on other frontcourt players during Duren's time away. Paul Reed is a leading candidate to take on a larger role at center. John Collins and Tolu Smith could also see increased opportunities. The team will assess his recovery before setting a return date.
Duren signed a five-year, $200 million contract extension with Detroit in October. This deal followed lengthy offseason negotiations. The Pistons hope to have their starting center back at full strength as they pursue another competitive season.
