The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Thursday night in Raleigh, marking their fourth win in the last five games. The victory extended a season-opening winning streak to nine games, a new record for the franchise.

Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov made 24 saves to earn his ninth win of the season without a loss. Mark Jankowski scored in the third period to secure the lead. Jordan Martinook and Logan Stankoven also found the back of the net for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Martinook opened the scoring with 4:09 remaining in the first period. He beat Columbus goaltender Jet Greaves from the left circle to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage. Seth Jarvis added two assists during the game.

Logan Stankoven increased the lead to 2-0 at the 7:47 mark of the second period. The goal marked his ninth of the season and his fifth in six home games this year. Greaves stopped 24 shots for the Blue Jackets.

Columbus cut the deficit in the third period. Denton Mateychuk and Kent Johnson both scored to make it 3-2. However, Jankowski restored the two-goal margin just 16 seconds into the final period, a goal that proved decisive.

The Hurricanes will host the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. The Blue Jackets travel to play the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
