Colorado backup quarterback Julian Lewis was transported to a hospital on Wednesday following a medical emergency at the university's athletic facility. His father, T. Carlton Lewis, confirmed the incident in a post on X on Thursday morning.
Lewis described his son as recovering and expressed gratitude toward the medical team, teammates, and fans. He asked the public to respect the privacy of the Lewis family during this time. No further medical details were released by the family or the school.
The University of Colorado issued a statement extending its full support to Lewis and his family. The school noted that Lewis remains in the thoughts of every player, coach, and staff member. Colorado pledged to assist in his full recovery and stated that his health and well-being are the top priority.
Teammates also offered support on social media. Wide receiver Joseph Williams posted that he was praying for Lewis and called him a twin. In a separate post, Williams commented on the pressure athletes face, stating that athlete mental health matters and urging people not to judge without knowing what the team goes through.
Lewis is in his second year at Colorado. He began the season as the starter but was replaced by Isaac Wilson after coach Deion Sanders took over the offense. This season, Lewis has passed for 733 yards and six touchdowns with two interceptions. Last month, he set a record by throwing four touchdown passes in the first half against Weber State and adding a rushing score.
Colorado faces Kansas State in a scheduled game this Saturday.
