Nicolas Cage has publicly supported Ryan Gosling's casting as the new Ghost Rider, a role Cage himself occupied for two films nearly two decades ago. Cage made the endorsement while attending the premiere of his latest movie, Madden, which opens in limited theaters on November 11.

The upcoming Marvel project is scheduled for release on July 28, 2028. Shawn Levy will direct the film. Gosling will play Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who becomes a demon hunter. Connor Storrie is currently in talks to star as the antagonist.

Cage told The Hollywood Reporter that he is looking forward to seeing Gosling's interpretation. He noted that the two actors maintain a friendly relationship and have had pleasant conversations. Cage said, "Ryan knows how I feel about him as an actor; we’ve had nice conversations and we stay in touch." He added that he wished Gosling the best of luck on the project.

Gosling announced his interest in the character during a July Comic-Con appearance. He stated, "This is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time." The casting carries a personal dimension for Cage, as Gosling's wife, Eva Mendes, appeared alongside him in the original 2007 Ghost Rider and the 2012 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Cage is currently promoting Madden, a film directed by David O. Russell. The movie follows football coach John Madden and his relationship with Raiders owner Al Davis. It will begin streaming on Prime Video on November 18.
