Three individuals face suspicion in an attempted arson attack on a Romanian weapons facility, according to statements from the national intelligence service. President Nicușor Dan highlighted this specific number on X, linking the suspects directly to a sabotage network coordinated from Moscow.

The incident involved an attempted fire at the Carfil weapons plant in Brașov on 14 September. Romanian authorities identified a Ukrainian citizen and two Belarusians as the alleged perpetrators. The Intelligence Service determined that the network behind the act received its direction from Russia, establishing a direct chain of command for the operation.

Dan characterized the event as a serious violation of national sovereignty. He stated that no foreign state has the right to act in such a manner on Romanian territory. The president described the attack as part of a long-standing Russian strategy to undermine European democracies through hybrid warfare.

In his analysis, Dan listed specific tools used in this conflict, including election interference, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and physical sabotage. He praised the Romanian intelligence services for effectively uncovering the network. The president promised a decisive response to protect critical infrastructure and citizens.

The case fits a pattern of rising Russian provocations within the European Union, a trend Dan has previously noted. He pledged to continue close cooperation with NATO allies and European Union partners. The government aims to prevent similar incidents and identify all involved parties in the plot.
