Miami women’s basketball outscored Florida Atlantic 75-48 on Monday evening to close out the first game of a six-game homestand at Watsco Center. The Hurricanes took the floor in the same arena where their previous season ended, this time securing a commanding win that established their early-season footing.
Juniors Ahnay Adams and Gal Raviv led the scoring effort. Adams finished with a team-high 21 points on 80% shooting from the field, adding eight rebounds. Raviv contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Freshman Anna Liepina started at center in place of graduated star Ra Shaya Kyle, who had averaged 14 points and nine rebounds last season. Liepina scored the game’s first points for Miami with a layup off the glass in the opening minute.
The Hurricanes controlled the interior throughout the contest. In the second quarter, Miami scored 16 of its 19 points in the paint while limiting FAU to only two points in that area. This interior advantage helped the team build a 36-25 lead at halftime. Soma Okolo provided additional scoring off the bench, adding 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Chattanooga transfer Gianna Corbitt led the team with 10 rebounds in her debut.
Miami extended its lead in the third quarter, outscoring FAU 24-19 to reach a 60-39 mark. An 13-3 run capped by a three-pointer from Adams gave the Hurricanes their largest lead of the game at 22 points. The team maintained its defensive intensity in the final period, holding Florida Atlantic to just three field goals. Miami outscored the Owls 15-9 in the fourth quarter to seal the result.
The shooting disparity defined the box score. The Hurricanes shot 52% from the field, converting 30 of 58 attempts. FAU shot 31%, making 17 of 54 shots. The Owls missed 20 three-point attempts, while Miami missed only six. The team returns to action on Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. against Jacksonville at Watsco Center.
