Bristol Rovers Manager Steve Evans Sets Realistic Target Ahead of Fleetwood Visit
With only one away win this season, the Gas aim to break a six-game winless run in the Championship.

Bristol Rovers face a daunting task this weekend as they travel to face Fleetwood Town, a side that recently eliminated Premier League champions Arsenal from the Carabao Cup. The Gas are coming off a goalless draw with Swindon Town, a result that snapped a five-game losing streak but left the team without a victory in six matches across all competitions. Their struggles on the road are stark, as they have recorded only one away win this season, a 2-0 result against Crawley Town in August.
Manager Steve Evans acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming fixture. He stated that securing a point would be a positive outcome given the team's recent history on the road. Evans noted that Rovers have not performed to a high enough standard away from home to consistently win. He expressed a preference for a competitive draw over a hollow 0-0 scoreline, though he emphasized that the team must still strive for a 1-0 win. His primary focus is on producing a disciplined and hard-working performance, qualities he feels have been lacking in recent away outings.
Scoring goals has become a notable issue for Bristol Rovers in October, as the team has managed just four goals in the month. Evans pointed to a lack of chance creation compared to earlier in the season. He referenced the output of forwards Fabrizio, Ellis Harrison, Joe, and Shaq Forde, noting that they previously generated more opportunities. Evans stressed that Rovers must dictate the game and create numerous chances to have a realistic chance of winning at Fleetwood.
Fleetwood Town enters the match with high confidence after their midweek victory over Arsenal. The Cod Army controlled the possession battle against the Gunners, who held 78 percent of the ball and attempted 37 shots. Evans joked that Fleetwood would not sit as deep against Rovers as they did against Arsenal. He highlighted that Fleetwood found a way to win despite the statistical disparity and suggested Rovers need to find a similar path to victory.
The recent Cup win has generated discussion about crowd support for the league match. While Fleetwood sold out the stadium for the Arsenal fixture, Evans said he expects a strong turnout from Rovers fans. He admitted that the team has let down the club, owners, and management on the road this season. Evans expressed confidence in his squad's personnel, believing they can reverse their current form. He aims to keep Rovers within the pack of teams above them until January before making a push for promotion.
The match serves as a critical test for Rovers' away form. Evans believes that a strong performance will set the tone for the rest of the season. He noted that the home form has remained solid, and he hopes to replicate that consistency on the road. The team will look to build on the effort shown against Swindon as they attempt to end their winless streak. Evans remains optimistic that the squad has the quality to turn things around in the coming months.
