The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday to claim their first World Series championship in franchise history. The victory in St. Petersburg, Florida, ended a 44-year drought for the team, which last appeared in the World Series in 1982. Milwaukee won 11 of its 13 postseason games during this run.
Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt drove in two runs and recorded six consecutive hits to set a new World Series record for a rookie. He surpassed the previous mark held by New York Yankees outfielder Brian Doyle, who set the standard in 1978. Pratt’s streak began in Game 4 on Tuesday and ended with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of the deciding game.
Jacob Misiorowski recorded the win in his second World Series start. The pitcher threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out two batters. He exited the game in the sixth inning due to a cramp in his right calf. Two relievers pitched before closer Trevor Megill finished the game. Megill allowed one run on a double to Chandler Simpson with two outs in the ninth but induced a ground ball from Richie Palacios to end the contest.
The Rays' Drew Rasmussen started on three days of rest and faced an early offensive surge. He gave up a one-out double to Brice Turang in the second inning. Pratt then hit a first-pitch cutter into center field, scoring Turang and another runner. Rasmussen finished with a 2-1 record, allowing one run on two hits across four innings while striking out four batters.
Tampa Bay mounted a brief threat in the fourth inning. Chandler Simpson reached second base on an error by right fielder Sal Frelick after a single. With runners on second and third, Misiorowski induced a ground out from Ben Williamson to end the inning. The Brewers extended their lead in the fifth and sixth innings.
David Hamilton added a run-scoring single in the fifth, marking his fourth consecutive game with an RBI. William Contreras hit a double off the left field wall in the sixth to score Christian Yelich. Contreras later scored on a deep fly ball from Pratt to give the Brewers a 4-1 advantage. The Rays are now winless in three World Series appearances, having also fallen in 2008 and 2020.
