Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates announced that prosecutors are seeking life in prison for two men indicted on first-degree murder charges. Bates stated that the office will not negotiate for a shorter sentence, telling reporters, “We will only give these four letters, L-I-F-E. We will give life.”

The first case involves 23-year-old Tyree Reynolds, who allegedly killed 12-year-old Khloe Ishway at Leon Day Park. According to Bates, Reynolds left behind 20 rifle cartridge casings at the scene. Five of those casings struck people, and one bullet struck Ishway, who was an innocent bystander to a shootout.

The second case involves 32-year-old Montray McCray, who is charged with the death of 76-year-old Claudia Bismark during a street robbery. Investigators discovered that McCray was a trained boxer. Bates noted that a trained boxer’s punch causes more destruction than an average individual’s. McCray allegedly punched another robbery victim in the face three days before attacking the elderly couple.

Both victims died at locations residents consider safe. Ishway was killed at an athletic field during a homecoming celebration. Bismark was killed after going out for breakfast in her own neighborhood.

Mayor Brandon Scott said the city is sending a clear message about active, careless, and reckless violence. He stated that defendants in these cases should be held accountable by spending the rest of their lives in prison.

The two men are currently charged with first-degree murder. The prosecution has indicated that life imprisonment is the target penalty for both defendants.
