Longboat Key town staff converted the commission chambers into a Halloween costume party on Thursday afternoon. The event brought a temporary break from the typical proceedings in the room, which usually host debates over millage rates, resort arches, and underground power lines.

The celebration featured a wide variety of characters, including Elvis Presley, Joe Dirt, and the Three Musketeers. The new town manager attended dressed as George Washington, while another employee appeared as a pig wrapped in a blanket. Staff members organized the event in small groups, creating a distinct atmosphere within the municipal building.

Food was a central component of the gathering, with participants bringing their own items for a potluck. One staffer prepared a batch of homemade pierogies, which became a standout item on the buffet table. The group shared the dishes without serving any purchased alcohol.

The event lasted approximately one hour and thirty minutes. Town staff managed the logistics of the party within the standard meeting space, allowing the workforce to interact in a social setting. The gathering concluded with the staff members leaving the chambers, returning the room to its usual function for upcoming commission meetings.
